About the Project

Self-driving cars are inevitable to come into our everyday life and unlock their potential to transform into something more than a simple means of transport.

In the not too distant future, drivers will appear to have a great deal of free time in-car. Rather than having to focus on driving, they will be able to spend time on work, entertainment, or simply relaxation.

When drivers become able to fully divert their attention from the road, windscreens will suddenly turn into projector screens, in-car gaming console docks will get inevitable, and video streaming will take over from the radio.

About the Technology

Inspiration for the design was taken from the new technology of the holographic AR image on glass from the WayRay company. The fundamental parameters of the nanostructure make WayRay’s holographic optical element second-to-none:

1. Reduced volume of the projection unit due to a thin photopolymer film that frees up space inside the vehicle.

2. Virtual image placed ahead of the vehicle: overlapping the user’s field of view, it results in an immersive augmented reality experience

3. AR user interface displayed at a distance comfortable for the driver’s eyes; the virtual object distance set from 0 m to ∞.

The Solution

Entertainment on the go

Just imagine a world when you enter a car, and it automatically connects to your mobile phone. All videos that you watched at home and games that you played on the phone get transferred into projector screens of your car. You do not need to worry about synchronization: everything is already configured and personalized to your preferences.

New Age of Travel

In that concept I tried to shape the future of autonomous vehicle entertainment experiences. Augmented reality (AR) technology will allow to decorate and enrich modern tourism. Just imagine that you go on a trip to Berlin. All information about local attractions is accessible without leaving the car: AR helps you to find nearby cafes, or to buy tickets without standing in a queue (pic. 1), to save your favorite places to your collection and to share your routes with family and friends (pic. 2). Even to see the way this place looked in the distant past (pic. 3).

Revolution of the Game

Revolution of the The game industry will get a new life. What could be more fun than collecting Easter eggs during your travel or a simple trip home? You can come up with many more different concepts – the future of autonomous vehicle entertainment will be limited only by our imagination.
